How to select your electrical solar panel system

Here we calculate panel requirements for you, based on your quick assessment of power needs. This calculation provides a useful guildline to working out which panels you will need.

Step1: Calculate Energy Required to Run Appliances:
Enter the power rating and the number of hours used per day for up to five appliances, then click on "calculate"

Step2: Calculate Energy Required from Solar Panels:
The panels will therefore need to supply this amount of energy to the battery each day, to cover this total power required by your appliances.

Due to natural losses occuring through solar, we multiply the result by 1.2 (this factor allows for natural system losses, assuming 85% efficiency). Therefore, we will assume the panels will actually need to be able to supply a total of WattHours


Step3: Calculate Power Rating of Solar Panels:

SUMMER (7.8 hours of Sunshine per day) Perth
In order to supply WattHours of energy per day, the panels (which we assume receive 7.8 hours sunshine in the Perth WA), will need to be rated in total at divided by 7.8 = Watts



AVERAGE (Six hours Sunshine per day) Perth Sun Hours
In order to supply WattHours of energy per day, the panels (which we assume receive 6 hours sunshine in the Perth WA), will need to be rated in total at divided by 6 = Watts
